Mr Chairman and Councillors, I should like to welcome the Parish Council back to the Village Hall, thank you for this opportunity to give a brief update on the activities of the Village Hall through the first half of 2019 and the plans being developed for 2020.
The Hall continues to host Pilates, Gardening Club, The WI and now the PCC. We had a training session with DanceVibes now managed by Clara who recognises we are not a suitable venue for a dance competition but an occasional venue for training workout without music.
The Quiz by Rob Lee held May 15th was our first organised event, we lost a few players when we decided to postpone the Quiz from its original date to avoid a clash with the European Cup but drew strong support with 9 teams competing for the honour of first place. Rob was supported by Ellie who brought a light note to scoring. The Hall made a healthy profit of £400 from the event and have invited Rob to run a second Quiz in November.
The Committee is planning a social event for early September to promote awareness of the Hall and build support for a barn dance planned for September 2020.
We have arranged a coffee morning September 27th to raise money & awareness for the McMillan charity. This event will be supported by the Gardening Club, which will run a plant stall and we are looking for more local groups to support the event.
Dr Busker has been booked for Oct 4th, this will be a ticked event as he is expected to attract a strong following.
Our plans for 2020 include a new round of Quiz’s, tribute events, and the end of the summer Barn Dance.
Reaching out to the community, we have expressions of support for the quiz’s, tribute events & one person plays which we will follow up on to provide regular events through the year.
We have made a start with revamping the Hall, repairing the plumbing, investigating upgrading the toilets and arranging for the electrical system to be checked. We will be planning further refresher work through the year drawing in local support.
We still have to complete transferring the bank account to the new Committee, but think we have everything in place take over the account.
We are open to any suggestions to make the Hall a community centre for the Village, including birthday wedding and anniversary celebration. Please mention us to friends and neighbours.
